arcocarmen.jpg - The arch was constructed in 1677, and shows the mudejar influence in Chianpan architecture. The Convent of the Encarnacion de monjas concepcionistas, built in 1597, was the only one of its kind for religious order in Ciudad Real, as San Cristobal was then named. When the sisters left the city, the culto del misterio de la Encarnacion ended. The order of Nuestra Señora de Carmen became the convent's name.DSC02086

The Arco de Carmen was constructed in 1677. The design reflects the Moorish influence in architecture of the colonial era.
